The journey wasn't without its challenges, with road closures due to avalanche warnings adding a touch of suspense to our adventure. Undeterred, we packed our bags, boiled some eggs for a roadside breakfast, and hit the road, ready to embrace whatever the day brought.

Caffeine with a View: Discovering Hidden Gems Along the Way

The drive to Milford Sound is an attraction in itself. The scenery is simply spectacular, with towering mountains, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls at every turn. One of our favorite discoveries was a charming coffee stop run by a local entrepreneur. A van, an espresso machine, and a breathtaking backdrop – the perfect combination for a caffeine fix. The dirty chai, a blend of chai and espresso, was the ideal pick-me-up, tasting like "Christmas in a cup" as we soaked in the incredible views.

Back in town, we indulged in a delicious meal of lamb shank and locally sourced elk at The Ranch, a perfect ending to an unforgettable day.
