Unveiling Jordan: A 7-Day Adventure Through Ancient Wonders and Modern Marvels
Amman: A Modern City Built on Ancient Sands
Our Jordanian adventure begins in Amman, the nation's capital. A vibrant blend of old and new, Amman showcases Jordan's progressive spirit while honoring its rich past. From the impressive 6,000-seat Roman amphitheater carved into a hillside to the colorful and bustling Rainbow Street, Amman offers a taste of what's to come.
During Ramadan, Rainbow Street provided a haven with cafes and shops remaining open. Books At Cafe, a unique blend of restaurant, bookstore, and art gallery, and the quieter Old View cafe with its panoramic cityscapes, were two highlights.
Jerash: Stepping Back in Time
Just north of Amman lies Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside of Italy. This ancient city, once a thriving commercial and cultural center, boasts impressive landmarks like the Hippodrome, the Oval Plaza, and the South Theatre. Walking among these ruins offers a glimpse into a bygone era.
The vastness and preservation of Jerash earn it the nickname "Pompeii of the Middle East," a testament to its historical significance.
Madaba and Mount Nebo: Tracing Biblical Footsteps
Jordan's significance in biblical history is undeniable. In Madaba, we visited the church housing the oldest known map of the Holy Land, a remarkable artifact detailing important biblical locations.
Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land, offers breathtaking views and spiritual significance. These sites provide a fascinating perspective on the region's history, regardless of one's religious beliefs.
The Dead Sea: A Unique Natural Wonder
Floating in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, is a truly unique experience. The high salt concentration creates incredible buoyancy, while the mineral-rich mud is said to have healing properties.
Witnessing the receding shoreline serves as a reminder of the environmental challenges facing this natural wonder.
Petra: The Rose-Red City
Petra, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, is the undeniable highlight of any trip to Jordan. This ancient Nabataean city, carved into towering sandstone cliffs, is a breathtaking spectacle. The Treasury, an elaborate tomb, is an iconic landmark, made even more famous by its appearance in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
Exploring Petra's vast landscape, marveling at the intricate carvings, and learning about its ingenious water system is an unforgettable experience.
Wadi Rum: A Martian Landscape on Earth
The Wadi Rum desert, with its dramatic rock formations and vast expanse, feels like another planet. From jeep tours and camel rides to stargazing in a luxury campsite, Wadi Rum offers a unique desert adventure.
The desert's unique landscape has made it a popular filming location, featuring in movies like "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Martian," and several "Star Wars" films.
